PEG-MGF is a pegylated form of mechano growth factor, the IGF-1Ec splice variant that muscle tissue produces in response to mechanical load. The native peptide has a short working life in the body, which limits how it can be handled experimentally; attaching a polyethylene glycol chain to the molecule (PEGylation) increases its molecular size, slows clearance and extends its presence in circulation.
