Survodutide

Survodutide Peptides

Intro paragraph

Survodutide is a dual glucagon and GLP-1 receptor agonist, and it is the one compound in this class that is still entirely investigational: phase 3 results are published, but no regulator anywhere has approved it. That distinction shapes everything on this page. Below you will find what the molecule is, what the trial data actually reported, where its approval stands, and what to verify before you order.

What is survodutide?

Survodutide (development code BI 456906) is a once-weekly synthetic peptide that activates two receptors at once: glucagon and GLP-1. It was discovered by Zealand Pharma and licensed to Boehringer Ingelheim, which holds responsibility for development and commercialisation.

The dual design is intentional. GLP-1 activity suppresses appetite and slows gastric emptying; glucagon activity raises energy expenditure and promotes fat oxidation. Pairing them is the same approach used by mazdutide and retatrutide, and it is what separates this generation of compounds from single-target GLP-1 agonists such as semaglutide.

Approval status

As of November 2026, survodutide is investigational. No regulatory authority has approved it for marketing anywhere in the world, and no marketing application has been confirmed as filed.

MarketStatus
United States (FDA)Not approved. Phase 3 ongoing. Breakthrough Therapy designation granted for MASH, which speeds review but is not an approval.
European Union (EMA)Not approved.
China (NMPA)Not approved.
Rest of worldNot approved; import rules vary by country.

Because it is unapproved everywhere, any listing describing survodutide as an approved medicine, or presenting it as a treatment, is inaccurate. A promising trial profile and a market authorisation are different things.

What the trials showed

The headline data comes from SYNCHRONIZE-1, a phase 3 trial in adults with obesity or overweight, reported in April 2026 and published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Over 76 weeks of once-weekly treatment:

  • Mean body weight reduction reached up to 16.6%
  • The placebo-adjusted difference reached up to 13 percentage points
  • Up to 85.1% of treated participants achieved a reduction of at least 5% of body weight

Gastrointestinal adverse events were the most frequently reported, consistent with the GLP-1 class, and discontinuation rates reflected that. These are results from a monitored trial population: not a prediction for any individual, and not dosing guidance.

Separately, the FDA granted Breakthrough Therapy designation for MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis), and two phase 3 trials in that indication are running. That is a separate development programme from the weight-management one, and it does not affect the approval status above.

What we supply

The survodutide we list is a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in sealed vials, supplied as research-grade material. It is not a finished pharmaceutical product, and it is not the formulation used in the trials described above.

Every vial ships with batch documentation, and a certificate of analysis stating identity and purity is available on request. Orders ship with temperature control: a lyophilized peptide exposed to heat or repeated temperature cycling is no longer the product you paid for, so cold-chain handling is treated here as part of the product rather than as an optional extra.

Storage and handling

Store sealed vials dry at -20 °C for long-term storage, or at 2 to 8 °C for short periods. Protect from light and moisture and avoid repeated temperature cycling. Once reconstituted for a laboratory protocol, follow that protocol's requirements and keep the solution refrigerated. Keep out of the reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Is survodutide approved? No. As of November 2026 it is investigational and unapproved in every market. Phase 3 results have been reported, but reporting results and receiving approval are separate steps.

How is it different from mazdutide and tirzepatide? All three are dual agonists, but not of the same receptors. Survodutide and mazdutide both combine glucagon and GLP-1 activity; tirzepatide combines GIP and GLP-1. Their trial populations, durations and results differ, so they cannot be compared milligram for milligram.

What was the weight loss in the phase 3 trial? Up to 16.6% mean reduction at 76 weeks in SYNCHRONIZE-1, with a placebo-adjusted difference of up to 13 percentage points.

Do you provide a certificate of analysis? Yes, on request, per batch, stating identity and purity for the batch shipped.

Is the vial the same product used in the trials? No. The vials here are lyophilized research material. The trials used a formulated, dosed product administered under clinical supervision.

How is it shipped? With temperature control and tracking, in insulated packaging.
