SELANK 5 MG XENO LABS USA
Selank Peptide:
How It Works, Benefits, Side Effects, and Target Applications Biotechnology took off recently, therefore new biologically active substances, leading to nootropics, were also introduced.
One of them is Selank (TP-7), that belongs to synthetic peptides or small man-made molecules.
Selank is so-called because it is an anti-anxiety agent, allegedly, which also enhances learning and increases biological energy, all without side-effects or potential for addiction, so it is claimed.
Much smaller than naturally-occurring proteins, Selank was developed by joint efforts of the Institute of Molecular Genetics (Russian Academy of Sciences) and the V.V. Zakusov Research Institute of Pharmacology (Russian Academy of Medical Sciences), which also produced its drug counterpart Semax.
Selank is a synthetic peptide composed of tuftsin, a natural hexapeptide extremely relevant to the immune system, combined with an unnatural sequence to increase the peptide's stability at the molecular level; it seems that selank is a more effective form since the peptide has anxiolytic and serotonin increasing properties (although at a substantially lesser degree).
Selank is approved to be used as a treatment for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and as a nootropic in Russia but has no indication approved by the FDA. Even so, Selank is still available in many areas, frequently sold as a dietary supplement.
Mechanism of Action:
Although the pathways leading to the activity of Selank are unclear, Selank is thought to extend enkephalins in the circulation, with the intent of opposing the stress response. But results from the animal analysis in mice neither verified this stabilization nor revealed any major anti-anxiety effects.
Selank may also bind to GABA receptors, which could cause sedative effects. One study where they examined this in mice showed that the percentage of activity was increased for inhibitory neurons, leading to a decreased level of over activity of the overall brain — a sign of sedation.
Some research indicates that Selank increases levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a substance needed for learning and memory, and alters levels of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin, implicated in motivation and pleasure.
Effects:
Selank has been reported to decrease anxiety with some clinical data and based on animal studies, although more research is needed.
Animal studies have found memory enhancement and neuroprotection in brain damage, although there are apparent benefits in depression and antioxidant activity and cardiovascular effects are being investigated.
Safety:
Selank shows a wide variety of potential benefits, but it should be approached with care as there are few human studies available and the safety and efficacy long term is unknown. Do consult with a healthcare professional before trying Selank or any other supplement.
